I live in a villa unit near the local Conservation Volunteers Australia office and Raintrees Shopping Centre, which are a 20-minute bus/bike ride from Cairns Central Business District (CBD) and the popular Esplanade waterfront, including swimming lagoon, sunbathing area, walking/bicycle paths, exercise stations, beach volleyball, birdlife, etc. The Palm Royale Hotel (pick-ups for Reef, rainforest, and other tours) is also very close by. The Mt Whitfield Environmental Park (including a 3-hour rainforest hike), Botanical Gardens, Tanks Arts Centre and Centenary Lakes are a 15-minute bus/bike ride away (I can lend you a map and my bike). The northern beaches and the waterfalls and hiking trails of Barron Gorge National Park can also be reached by bus or bike. Depending on when you arrive, I may be able to meet you at the airport or in the CBD (at the main bus stops, railway station, or the Esplanade opposite the lagoon). Alternatively, I can meet you at Raintrees shopping centre, which is just a 5-minute walk from my home. I offer a small room with a ceiling fan, TV/DVD, wardrobe, and chair. Bedding, towels, and sarongs are provided. Facilities include community swimming pool, spa/hot-tub, outdoor sunbathing/dining area, exercise equipment, and internet/laptop (for reasonable use). Feel free to use the kitchen while you are here; in some cases I will provide meals for you. Being reasonably central, my place is a great base to explore Cairns and surrounds!
Because it's a small house, we have space for one person at a time. We live in an old country town, about 80 minutes drive from Cairns Airport, or 2 hours by local bus. We are walking distance to town, or you can borrow the push bike. We are happy to meet the bus from Cairns. Our little kitchen is well equipped and you would cook and clean up after yourself. We can take you shopping if you want anything other than what we have. There are taxis in town - otherwise public transport is limited, most people hire a car for touring around and we are happy to take you around where we are going. The Tablelands are very pretty - old volcanic area so very fertile and productive. Plenty of seasonal picking, packing, farm-type work available. There are spectacular crater lakes and small waterfalls for swimming, full of cool, crystal clear spring water.
Its a fold out couch in a 3 bedroom house in Smithfield ( 10 minutes into the city) There's a sweet little shopping plaza about 5 minutes walk from our place. Smithfield shopping centre is not far, and the beach is 10 minute bus ride from our place. You are free to eat anything as long as you contribute in someway. There's two guys and a girl here, but in february it becomes a guy and two girls and we're pretty sweet people..... love hanging with people from overseas and glad to show you around or anything you need... should't matter how long you stay, but just let us know before hand. sweet.
I live with my 14 year old daughter and our two border collies. We are fairly quiet at home Mon - Fri as we are pretty busy during the day. Very easy going, love meeting people and are active. Can usually offer spare room with double bed, fan plus airconditioning and some space in wardrobe. Free use of internet in main part of house. Guests will need to provide own food if staying more than one night, plus phone calls etc. Must be kind to dogs (mostly outside and trained)and child friendly (no bad language etc). Very central location, bus handy.
small room in a comfortable 4 bedroom house. Close to beach. Minutes to Palm Cove and Trinity Beach restaurants. Some lovely hills to walk in nearby. The area has two nice golf courses. Public transport is outside the house. We prefer visitors to feel at home, like to eat together, and appreciate help with the chores, cooking, cleaning etc. Usually we say initially two nights stay. We have two small dogs, and two daughters who are at the age they come and go.
We are located in Innisfail, about 1 hours drive drive south and 30 minutes north of Mission Beach. House plus self contained unit over looking the river. You would be staying in the self contained unit. The unit has 1 double bed, toilet shower and cooking facilities for your use. We are within half a km of the town centre. Ideal base to explore tropical north queensland
small room just out of town...buses avail. or 20 minute walk (but it's very hot) Laid back atmosphere, so please, only laid back people up for a laugh. Any age or gender welcome..If i have time i'm more than happy to show people the best places in Cairns and nearby. Unfortunately i'm out of Australia until December, but after that everyone welcome...
Tent space in a medium sized suburban yard in a quiet suburb of Cairns. Close to botanical gardens (5mins, public transport (1 min), cafes & lovely parks. You will have access to the in-house bathroom, toilet & kitchen. You must provide your own food. A great central location to spend a few days exploring Cairns & surrounding region.
2 Rooms with a comfortable single bed in each located at Kewarra Beach(17km north of Cairns CBD). Spare mattress can be placed on floor if needed. Very close to beach. Our place would be a great base to explore both Port Douglas and Cairns region. Local transport readily available. Lots of nice restaurants and bushwalks nearby.
Moving between residences at the moment but always have spare bed handy. Currently in a converted store/post office (makes for the open-studio look)in a rural area 10 kms north of Innisfail (90kms south of Cairns). Best if have own transport as no public services. Have meals with us - they are mostly vegetarian.
