Hello! I'm Robin, a 20 year old college student at the University of Florida in Alachua. I live in a small apartment in a nice area of Gainesville; downtown is about fifteen minutes away by public transportation (I live five minutes from a bus stop). I invite you to come visit the "real" Florida and experience life with a very local girl (and possibly some of her quirky family.) My family has lived in Florida for over 150 years; I am proud of the state's unique culture and would love to share it with you. If you arrange in advance, I would be happy to give you a tour of the local area- kayaking in the swamps (in the summer), ice skating with Floridians who don't know how to ice skate at the fake rink (in the winter), take you to some great Florida restaurants, etc..(maybe even have my Mother fix some great southern comfort food.) The actual accommodations are nothing luxurious- a palette on the floor of my living room- but my home is very clean and comfortable, and you are welcome to use my kitchen (you provide the food) and bathroom. Sorry guys, but I have to ask for women only right now. I know most of you are awesome people, but I have to watch out for the crazies out there, as I live alone. Also, the most I can offer for accomodation is three nights, as my apartment is quite small and can start to feel cramped rather quickly.(Again, if you provide enough advance notice, I can most likely connect you with someone else in Gainesville willing to host you.)
We can offer a couple of couches, floor space, and plenty of private yard space if you would like to camp. We also have a large attic space available (may be too hot in the summer, but any other time is great). We live pretty close (walking distance) to the Univeristy of Florida and downtown Gainesville (good restaurants and some decent nightlife). There is cheap public transportation, however bicycles are the way to go around here. Within driving distance there are lakes, springs, sailing, snorkeling, hiking and various other natural attractions. We may be able to provide a bike and car rides and can definitely show you around some. There are four of use that live in this house. All of us are either students or work for the university and we all are accustomed to DIY-shoestring style traveling. Of course you can feel free to use our kitchen and whatever else we can help with. We would be glad to share meals and split costs with you.
guest room . quiet private very serene apartment complex. bike or walk to most university locations and downtown. directly next to grocery store. if anyone's home ,we cook. 2 or 3 at the most. length of stay dependent on time of year . 2 pools ,workout room is decent. cool neighbors . shuttle bus to disney world and international drive/universal orlando is down the road and $15 a person, with a miami transfer on nice shuttle from there being $25. Bars and restaurants are locally owned and there are routine outdoor farmers market type events weekly to buy groceries and many other things , within walking distance. The mall is about a 15-20 minute drive away with a metro outside going there as well.
family apartment close to u of F. Very quiet and chill neigbors , no drugs or criminal activity , the complex is large with a few pools . One of us is often not travelling , but the family travels a lot. the house has a stereo and you can cook and if I am there I like to cook and let people try whatever I am fixing. public transit is good and there are also cheap shuttles to disney world universal eTc close by. The bars and clubs are close. No parties or afterparties in the house. no tobacco smoking inside. I am a music and art freak and the house's look reflects that. If we're not busy we can go around town.
I've got a big comfy couch in my old style Florida room that looks out into the back yard of my house. The house is near one of Gainesville's most popular institutions: Satchel's Pizza. It is very close to several points on the rails-to-trails bicycle trails, so if you are one of those cool people bicycling across the country, feel free to stop by my place for a couple of nights' respite. Also, there is a city bus stop less than a block away that will take you straight to the downtown hub. I may also have bedrooms available at times when I don't have renters, so make sure you ask.
Couch in the living room of my one bedroom apartment...or I can always set up a place for you to sleep on the living room floor, just pretend you are camping. 3 people max. could sleep in my living room, as long as they are not high maintenance or anything. Downtown Gainesville, right across from the UF campus and within walking/biking distance of a majority of the towns clubs and such. The bus system has several stops near my apartment. You can use the shower, kitchen, etc. while you are here, but buy your own food, clean up after yourself.
I live in a big house in a quiet residential neigborhood with 6 of my friends. We have 2 or 3 couches and 2 or 3 spare mattresses and lots of comfortable capet space. We are about 1 mile from the University of Florida, The Swamp Stadium, 2 museumes, 2 movie theaters, A Preforming arts center, pubs, restaurants, and all else that goes with a small college town. Close shopping and bus stops, 5 minutes from downtown. Full Kitchen (you'll probably get a free meal or two, too). We're also close to a lot of nature trails and explorable creeks.
Small room (office) with room for an air mattress in medium sized 3 bd/1ba house in downtown Gainesville. Less than 1 mile from University of Florida campus, shopping, restaurants and clubs. Bus stop a block away. Access to kitchen, bathroom and washer/dryer. It's currently my boyfriend and I and his sister who is in college. We have 4 cats and 1 dog so you must love animals...or at least like. ;) We all pretty busy with work/school but on weekends we're usually free for rides, hanging out...whatever. We like meeting new people. :)
I've got a couple of couches, a lot of floor space, and a beanbag whose innards turn into a mattress. My girlfriend Jill and two other roomates all live in a house less than a mile from downtown Gainesville and the University of Florida. We are all students at that instiution. Gainesville is a very bikeable and overall liberal city in the heart of rural North Central Florida. There is much natural beaty in the way of rivers and forests around us. Come check it out anytime you are in the region, we love visitors.
I have a small extra bedroom with a bathroom. It has a queen sized bed and closets for your clothes. I have two female roomates and we all share a kitchen and living room area. I live about 10 minutes from the University of Florida downtown gainesville and Paynes prairie. Gainesville is a college town but it also has some really great nature spot! its about a 45 min drive to st. augustine that has a really pretty beach. feel free to contact me if you are intrested in visiting Gainesville.
